We couldn’t be more excited to share that Chris Smith, our President and COO of Steve Nash Fitness World and Sports Clubs, is the “First Person” feature in the May 2017 edition of Club Business International.

CBI Magazine is the world’s leading magazine for the health and fitness industry, and is read by nearly 24,000 health club owners, managers, and professionals in 80 countries around the world.

Chris was asked about the past, present, and future of SNFC.

The Steve Nash Fitness World and Sports Clubs (SNFW) domain seems to be both growing and changing. A little update, if you would, on the business.

“Our business has definitely been evolving and growing here in British Columbia. We currently operate 22 Steve Nash Fitness World and Sports Clubs here, as well as two UFC GYM franchises in Kelowna and Coquitlam. We now have more than 100,000 members. Our clubs vary in scale, from 15,ooo to 40,000 square feet, and offerings, with a number of different services and amenities available.”

In 2015, SNFW diversified a bit, becoming a UFC Gym franchisee, with plans to open as many as 16 UFC facilities. The reasons for the move? And how’s it going?

“As the industry as evolved, we recognized the shift into boutique fitness for many consumers, and didn’t want to find ourselves on the outside looking in. We’ve always prided ourselves on our points of differentiation, particularly with respect to group fitness and personal training, so the UFC Gym philosophy–Train Different–was a natural fit. Also, the popularity of mixed martial arts in British Columbia gave us the confidence that this would work very well. So far, the consumer response has been great.”
